Our Company's History

Wholly owned by the City of St. Thomas, the Ascent Group of Companies was formed on January 1, 2012 – strategically rebranded from St. Thomas Holding Inc. and its affiliated for-profit companies.

While operating under the name of St. Thomas Holding Inc., our entrepreneurially-minded company acquired an impressive roster of successful energy solutions organizations: Tiltran Services and Lizco Sales Inc. in 2007, Tal Trees in 2009, ECM Controls Inc. in 2010 and Terra Vox in 2011.

The unique histories, experience and service offering of each of these companies create a strong foundation for our future and strategically positions us to be a leader in the delivery of energy solutions.

As a result of the deregulation of the electrical industry, St. Thomas Holding Inc. was officially incorporated on November 3, 2000 as a for-profit, taxable entity wholly owned by the City of St. Thomas.

St. Thomas Energy Services Inc. was established to provide reliable, cost-effective electrical distribution, traffic signal, street lighting and, later, fibre optic services.

A family-owned and operated company founded in 1982, Tiltran Services Inc. grew to become one of the largest high voltage contractors in Ontario. In recent years Tiltran diversified into wind farms and was responsible for the collection system for the largest wind farm in Canada.

Founded in 1987, Lizco Sales Inc. was a family-owned and operated company with the widest selection of inventory including the largest, privately-owned transformer inventory in Canada.

Founded in 1989, Tal Trees specialized in engineering services and site reviews, the construction of high voltage substations, maintenance of substation/transformers and overhead line construction and maintenance. It also provided high voltage emergency services and were involved in wind/solar initiatives.

Established in 1987, ECM Controls Inc. provided highly skilled technicians in the electrical and industrial control field. In 1990, ECM Controls expanded its service offerings to provide sales, installation and service for a wide range of security products.

Terra Vox’s proven waste-to-energy technologies and processes convert waste to energy in a sustainable, economically viable and environmentally responsible way.
